| It's already been a week since coming back from Japan and I had a bad case of jetlag. In a bit of luck and bad luck I also got sick right when I got back. Good in that I got sick after the trip, bad in that being sick sucks. I spent a good number of days sleeping away and I'm almost back in good health. For now I've been relaxing and catching up on things.
Japan for the most part was awesome. Ran around to a number of places during the short time there and I do plan on coming back again in a few years. I'll recap really quickly what I did each day:
Day 1: Stayed in hotel in Shinagawa for 6 nights. Looks around area and crashed early Day 2: Wandered Tokyo Station, Akihabara, Tokyo Tower, Mos Burger Day 3: Ghibli Museum, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Kiddy Land Day 4: Ueno Park, Kawagoe Festival, saw a J-drama actor (Kuma from Gokusen!) Day 5: Disney Sea Day 6: Walked outside Imperial Palace gates, Diet Building, Akihabara, Shibuya Day 7: Shinkansen to Kyoto. Stayed at hotel for 4 nights Day 8: Nara Park, Toda-ji temple, Osaka castle, Hep 5 Day 9: Shinkasen to Hiroshima, Miyajima Island, Itsukushima shrine, A-bomb dome, Children's memorial and museum, Hiroshima okonomiyaki Day 10: Shinkansen to Shin-Kobe, Kobe ropeway, herb gardeen, Tetsujin 28-go statue, Kobe pudding Day 11: Shinkasen back to Shinagawa, Hotel in Shibuya for one night, Akihabara, Shibuya 109 Day 12: Narita Express back to Airport
Picture are also with my NY and DC trip stuff. If you want a link ask and I'll most likely give you it if you can't see it.

| Phew...been back from the NY/DC trip for almost a week and I'm just about ready to head off to Japan. New York and Washington D.C. was tiring but a lot of fun! Our friend took us around New York by subway and we got around the DC area by subway and taxis. You really do feel like the center of the world being surrounded by all the monuments and memorials there. The opening song of Eden of the East kept playing in my head as we went around. =P I've also been on this crazy book craze. I was introduced to books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. These books are mystery thrillers with murders, supernatural events, as well as medical terminology. Starting in order (focusing on this one character in all the books), I read Relic (1st book) while I was practicing my defense talk. I picked up Reliquary (2nd book) right before going to NY and brought it along. On subway rides I'd read the book and I eventually bought the 3rd book of the series, Cabinet of Curiosities there, which happens to be my favorite. In the airport at D.C. I found a Borders and picked up the novel Wheel of Darkness, which happens to be the 8th book but can be read without reading the others. For the Japan trip, I picked up books 5-7 (Brimstone, Dance of Death, and Book of the Dead), which are part of some trilogy. I'm currently reading the 5th one (it's so good!) and plan to bring the others for reading on the long plane flight. I can't believe it is finally happening. For years I've been wanting to go and in a few days I'll be off. I would have preferred one of my closest friends come along, but shit happens. I'm glad I'll be going with my sister and we've been planning a list of stuff to do there. We already bought tickets to the Ghibi museum and that's one of the places I'm really looking forward to. I am bringing a netbook with me to upload pics and send emails since our dad would like updates on how we are doing there(we have a very worrisome dad). But ah....it's almost here!!!! | | |
| I'm currently staying in Jamaica, New York, where my bro's friend lives. He lives a few blocks from a subway so we've been taking that to get around. It can vary from 30min-2 hours depending on where we want to go (30-60 on avg). I think I've gotten a bit used to it and I'm considering it training for Japan when sis and I use the subways there. Last night we took the subway to Times Square and wandered around.
I'm amazed how in just over 24 hours here I've already seen most of downtown New York.
Today we went across the Brooklyn Bridge, saw the Manhattan Bridge, went to Chinatown, went to the WTC area (though now it's a huge construction site), went to Battery Park, took a ferry to the Statue of Liberty at Liberty Island and then to Ellis island (couldn't go up the crown since those sold out for the day), went down Wall Street, roamed Rockefeller center, went to Nintendo World, and then had dinner at a street cart our friend recommended (Halal, whatever that means but it was yummy). My feet are dead, but it's been a lot of fun. Tomorrow we're going more north to check out the Natural History museum and Central Park.
Weather changes here drastically. Earlier today it was sunny and warm. When we took the ferry in the afternoon it was getting overcast and by evening we had a huge downpour. We were so unprepared for it we got soaked and had to run into a Dunkin Donuts for half an hour to wait it out. Temperature wise it hasn't been very cold and the weather the rest of this week is supposed to be good.
I'm currently uploading pics, but they take a while. We get back not too late so I'll be spending the nights relaxing and uploading. I'm making a public access that those on my private list can access soon.

| I'm off to New York in a few hours. In the month of October, I'll be going to New York, Washington D.C. and Japan. Not all at once, but in that order. I haven't been to any of these places so I'm super psyched. The best part? I don't have a professor to make me feel bad about going on a trip now. Heck I never even told him I was traveling. And yes, I am going to enjoy this long waited vacation. =) | | |
| Just when I thought I was out of school. I never thought I'd hate someone this bad, but wow....he just refuses to be easy about it. To be honest, I hope he enjoys his miserable life since I can't imagine anyone having a shred of care for him. I turned in my dissertation on Monday and thought everything was all clear. Then today, I found out that because I included a chapter from the jackass (which was part of the agreement for writing my thesis), he decides to be an asshole and say he does not approve of it. My professor is bugging me because I thought he knew and then he says he didn't know. WTF!? My committee wrote off on it as well so they knew about it. So yeah, it's become a big mess. Anyways, long story short, because jackass is an asshole about it, I have to withdraw my dissertation, remove the chapter of the jackass work, and resubmit it. I already called the archives where I submitted it and they still have my dissertation. Luckily all I need to do is go back, remove the chapter, reprint, and resubmit it. Don't have to redo all the paperwork since that was a long pain in the ass. I also have to talk to my dept chair about what's going on and all. Totally pain to do, but seems duable. The best part is I can remove that jackass from my acknowledgements and all so he's completely out of my dissertation. There is still enough information in there (heck 2 of my chapters are published), so it'll still go through. Besides that, life has been a total whirlwind. Cousin's wedding came and gone, planning trips for the month of October and adjusting to life at home. | | |
